Receiving a colostrum feeding as soon as possible after birth has been identified as being the single-most important step for newborn lamb and kid survival. Newborn lambs and kids have limited energy reserves and need rapid access to colostrum to maintain body temperature and survive. This is especially true for lambs or kids that have a difficult birth, are born into cold temperatures, or are born to poorly fed ewes or does.
